Culture on the Dellplatz

Ever since the 1990s a varied culture and leisure scene, with programmes offered in the narrowest of spaces, has appeared on the Dellplatz, near the city centre. Thus the Artist House Goldstraße is not only the workshop of the arts in Duisburg but also the exhibition gallery. The HundertMeister Cultural Centre offers not only good food but also concerts and intimate cultural events. The cultural meeting point 'Die Säule', on the other hand, has restricted itself entirely to intimate art. Well-known artists , in particular from the world of literature, turn up here.

Even today the motto of the filmforum cinema on the Dellplatz, with its two performances a day, is still 'Show different films differently'. Filmforum started up in 1970 as the first communal cinema in Germany, and since 1997 has been a cinema for film premieres. Every year in November filmforum is the showplace for the Duisburger Film Week, the leading German documentary film festival. The leisure programme is rounded out by 'Webster', the experience restaurant of the No. 1 local Duisburg brewery.
