By virtue of the combination of high-quality music and a unique venue, the 'Traumzeit-Festival' in the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord has, in just a few years, secured a firm place in the German festival calendar. The musical emphasis is on jazz and world music. As a stage for contemporary music culture, the festival makes thematic cross-references to, amongst others, pop and serious music.

Year after year theatrical gems set against an industrial backdrop

In a very short time the Ruhrtriennale has become one of the most successful and important festivals on the European cultural scene. For this it is mainly Gerard Mortier, the first artistic director, that we have to thank because he was uncompromising in realising his vision and thus got the event off to a brilliant start. For six years major, new productions have been staged in the Ruhr district which have been groundbreaking for their genre. It is now impossible to imagine the industrial venues without the Ruhrtriennale.
