Triton Fountain
The Triton or Dolphin Fountain was designed for the Town Hall passageway, where it was originally placed. It was not until 1971 that it was moved to its present, brighter location.
Lifesaver Fountain
The Fountain is a joint piece of work by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely (1925 - 1991). Niki de Saint Phalle (1930 - 2002) created the fabulous bird-like creature to which a female figure is holding on tight. Standing upright with outstretched arms, it incorporates the ancient symbol of heaven with its bird associations.
Mercator Fountain
The Mercator Fountain outside the City Hall is a reminder of the famous cartographer and astronomer Gerhard Kremer who took the Latinised name Mercator (1512-1594). Born in the Netherlands, he lived from 1552 to 1594 in Duisburg. The fountain was created to mark the 300th anniversary of the publication of Mercator's great map of the oceans.
The fountain mile
The Königstrasse, a kilometre in length, presents itself , as it makes its way through the Duisburg inner city, as a varied interplay of fountains, avenue of lime-trees, roofed-in shopping mall and promenade.
