Spielbank Duisburg
The Spielbank Duisburg is the main attraction in the new CityPalais. The WestSpiel gaming company's experienced team invites you to try your luck using one or other token at the numerous machines or tables.
Innenhafen (inner harbour)
The cutting of the Rhine canal in 1828 was the origin of the present arm of the harbour, which consists of an outer and an inner harbour. In 1883 the outer harbour, behind what is now the Marientor lock, was extended eastwards as an inner harbour and expanded by the Holzhafen.
Culture on the Dellplatz
Ever since the 1990s a varied culture and leisure scene, with programmes offered in the narrowest of spaces, has appeared on the Dellplatz, near the city centre. Thus the Artist House Goldstraße is not only the workshop of the arts in Duisburg but also the exhibition gallery.
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord (Duisburg-North Country Park)
On what had been the smelting ground of the Thyssen AG, where until 1985 pig iron was smelted, a park came into existence, of a completely new style: a landscape park, on an enormous piece of industrial fallow land, 200 hectares in extent.
Niederrheinische Musik- und Kunstschule (School of Music and Art)
The 'Niederrheinische Musik- und Kunstschule' came into existence from the 'Städtische Singschule', which was established in 1954, and departments of the Konservatorium, established in 1900.
Thermal Baths
The 'Niederrrhein-Therme', in the Revierpark Mattlerbusch of 45 hectares in extent, is for Duisburg almost the equivalent of a spa. The thermal bath, with its natural thermal brine, in the north of the city, meets the most searching demands in every respect: the inner and outer pools, with troughs for sitting or lying down, the gulf stream and the hot brine whirlpool are of the most up-to-date type and provide the best conditions for relaxation and recuperation.
City Library
An important opportunity in the area of education and culture is offered by the Duisburg City Library. This presents a broad palette of services to all residents and persons interested, including books, sheet music, daily newspapers and periodicals and recorded material and video-cassettes.
Wasserwelt Wedau (Wedau Water World)
Attractive for athletes and for tourists as well as for children
Fun and relaxation is what the visitor will find at Wedau Water World in the Duisburg Sports Park. Whereas before it was the regatta course which attracted the elite of the world’s rowers and canoeists, with the construction of a parallel canal not only has more space been created for regattas, but also a varied leisure provision can now be accommodated here. For those in search of...
Zoo Duisburg
In 1934 'Duisburg-Hamborner-Tierpark Verein' (Zoological Association) created the necessary conditions for the present day zoo. In 1951 the 'House of a Thousand Fish' was opened and in 1965 mainland Europe's first dolphinarium opened its doors. In more than 2 million litres of sea water and against a backdrop of a Caribbean palm beach, the elegant sea mammals perform several times a day in front of their enthusiastic public.
A further attraction is also the ape house, and for children in particular the petting zoo.
