Karmelkirche (Carmelite Church)
The old Minoriten Church on Brüderstraße was built in 1515. After suffering massive bomb damage, it was replaced by the catholic Carmelite Church.
Liebfrauenkirche (Church of our Lady)
The catholic Liebfrauenkirche (Church of our Lady) was built at the end of the 1950s. It replaced another church which, like many places of worship, was destroyed in the Second World War.
Marienkirche (Marien Church)
The Marien Church is one of the oldest churches in Duisburg. Parts of it may well date back to the 10th and 11th centuries. Today's building dates mainly from the late 18th century.
St. Joseph-Kirche (St. Joseph's Church)
St. Joseph's Parish Church was also a victim of air attacks in the Second World War. It was practically razed to the ground in 1944.
Salvatorkirche (Salvator Church)
The Salvator Church next to the Town Hall can be recognised from a distance by virtue of its imposing tower. It is used not only as a place of worship; all sorts of cultural events are also held on the premises.
Mosque
The DITIB Merkez Community, one of the largest and oldest Muslim communities in Duisburg, has built the biggest mosque in Germany in Marxloh. It serves not only as a place for prayer, but also for cross-cultural exchange.
Jewish Community Centre / Synagogue
There had been a synagogue in Duisburg since 1875 but it was destroyed by the Hitler regime in 1938. It then took 60 years before there was again to be Jewish place of worship in our city.
